QTc Interval Prolongation and Severe Apneas Associated With a Change in Infant Positioning abstract

چکیده
For more than a decade there has been considerable interest in the role of QT interval prolongation in the pathogenesis of sudden infant death syndrome. It has been proposed that the QT interval is a surrogate marker for autonomic instability and can be used to identify infants at risk for significant morbidity and mortality, including sudden infant death syndrome. We present the case of an infant that experienced a significant increase in his QTc, as detected by continuous QTc monitoring in the NICU after repositioning from a supine to prone position. This increase from a 413 6 6 millisecond baseline average to 500 milliseconds was sustained for 2 hours and associated with clinically relevant apnea that ultimately required repositioning of the infant back to the supine position. Repositioning resulted in an immediate decrease of the QTc back to the previous baseline and termination of the apneic events. This case demonstrates an example of how the use of continuous QTc monitoring in the NICU setting may be used to detect QTc-accentuating factors in real time and identify situations that cause perturbations in an infant’s autonomic nervous system. متن کاملEvaluation of QRS, QTc, and JTc intervals in Congenital Heart Disease with Pulmonary Hypertension
Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in congenital heart disease affects the patient’s prognosis. Prolonged QRS and QTc intervals in ECG may intensify life-threatening dysrhythmia in patients. We aimed to investigate the correlation between QRS, QTc, and JTc intervals prolongation in ECG with PH in Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) patients. Mate...

We aimed to investigate the correlation between QRS, QTC and JTC intervals prolongation in ECG with PH in CHD children. Materials and MethodsIn a cross-sectional study tha...
متن کاملBaseline-Corrected QT (QTc) Interval Is Associated with Prolongation of QTc during Severe Hypoglycemia in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
BACKGROUND We investigated an association between baseline heart rate-corrected QT (QTc) interval before severe hypoglycemia (SH) and prolongation of QTc interval during SH in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS Between January 2004 and June 2014, 208 patients with T2DM, who visited the emergency department because of SH and underwent standard 12-lead electrocardiography wi...
متن کاملQTc Interval Prolongation Is Independently Associated With Severe Hypoglycemic Attacks in Type 1 Diabetes From the EURODIAB IDDM Complications Study
OBJECTIVE Our aim was to assess whether severe hypoglycemic attacks were cross-sectionally associated with abnormalities of the QTc interval in type 1 diabetic patients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS The study included 3,248 type 1 diabetic patients from the EURODIAB IDDM Complications Study. Severe hypoglycemia was defined as an attack serious enough to require the help of another person. A co...
